Truly a 'shwa creation

Last Saturday, after buying our wedding rings, before going to a wedding that afternoon, and en route to the dog park we stopped off at the grocery store to pick up a few things. It was there Dave revealed what I think is one of the most genius ideas I've ever heard. Dave snuck off to the lic-bo (the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO is the store which sells booze in Ontario. It's no fun to say it as the "L.C.B.O" or "liquor store", so we call it the "lick-bo") to get the remaining ingredient.

I think it also solidly confirms our "not quite ready for kids" status.*

It goes something like this:

Take one tub of gummi bears. Empty into bowl. Add spiced rum to level of gummi bears. Cover with saran wrap, refrigerate. Open fridge 24 hours later (or longer if you're the patient type) to reveal...

BOOZEY BEARS!

The gummis plump up and absorb the booze, and voila! They're a lovely snack and so much less fuss than vodka jello! What more perfect food could there be than gummi bears and booze combined?

Where was this idea when I was in my reckless undergrad days?!

I'll leave you with this lovely nugget of information (which I'm sure is close to the holy grail in importance in your lives) and I'll return to cleaning our pigsty (officially known as our house). I'm basting some classic CCR while I do it, cause it makes it seem less like awful cleaning when I'm singing "there's a bathroom on the right" at the top of my lungs while cleaning the bathroom.

*The plan on the kids front is "eventually," but not now. For now we both really love other peoples' kids.

Brilliant! I've been wondering what to do with all this spiced rum - problem solved!!

Classic CCR! I knew I loved ya for a reason.

And the boozy bears ... yes where ow where were they in my undergrad years. That is awesome. But as a mom of a 5 year old who loves gummy bears, I'll have to be careful about this one :)

Kristin: I can't take credit for the original idea but I'm happy to pass it along!

Elaine: I'll bring some over if you're nice! ;)

Roro: it's totally a great solution, though I also like spiced rum with pineapple juice or even coke if you're in need of other uses.

Sunshine scribe: Yay CCR! I'm sure little sunshine could learn to distinuish between "mommy's gummis" and his own - just put them on a high shelf. :)

So, you really love other people's kids, eh?

Wanna babysit? ;)

mamatulip: Sure! As long as I can hand them back when they're dirty! :P

Facinating. They don't become a huge sticky mess of goo? They plump up and you can hide your alcohol addiction behind what appears to be a sugar addiction? Guess what I'm bringing to work tomorrow...

Just stumbled across your blog. Love the candy/way to hid my ragind alcholism idea. :)

Desiree: the bottom of the bowl does become a big sticky mess of goo, but you just say you left them out in the sun and that's why you have to eat them with a fork. My sugar addicion is unbelievable, though I'm really not much of a boozer. My high school math teacher drank peppermint schnapps all the live long day and pretended it was scope, but apparently he's now close friends with liver failure, so it doesn't sound like such a great idea.

Boozey Bears?! That's the most wonderful invention that I've ever heard of! I must try that soon.

But could you come over here and watch my kid, because there's gonna be some drunken sillies going on.

Absolute freaking genius.
Marry him NOW.

Mrs. Chicky: We're brewing worms now too! I thought this sort of this is exactly what playpens were invented for? No?

Whinger: Fifty-some days left - I wanna see what other genius secrets he's hiding between now and then.... maybe there are other ways of combining booze and candy he hasn't yet disclosed!
