we have a drag queen in our midst

Being the lazy bums we are, we're big fans of our roomba, the robotic vacuum who does the floors while we walk dogs, or waste time on the internet.

Given our house is largely fur-laden, we named our roomba Hairy, since after the first time we used it, it was covered in hairs. We leave him alone, and come home to find either level of the house spotless.

It's been awesome and we've been impressed at what it can do, but the other day Hairy caught me off guard. It seems he's picked up a new trick.

The closet in our bedroom hasn't had a door since before we moved in. In fact, when we bought the house there was a hideous blue curtain on it that the dogs managed to pull down by lying on.
So, for weeks it's been wide open, since the door I bought was too big and is currently being sized down before we can install it.

I came home, though, the other day to see that hairy had apparently been in the closet. He'd apparently taken a liking to one of my sundresses and decided to try it on, take it for a spin. I think it suits him quite well.

Apparently the Roomba wants it to be summer RIGHT NOW. I agree!

Gorgeous!

I think if Hairy and Precious (my SpotBot) were to mate it would be the most perfect of all unions. What do you say? Shall we consider them betrothed?

Ooh! That would make us in-laws!

I gotta get me one of those! I'd love to go to work and come home to have the vacumming done.

Hey, I was going to fix Hairy up with Adelaide (our Roomba) -- but I see another commenter above has already claimed the rights for her robot to be wed to him. Oh well, let Hairy know if it doesn't work out, Adelaide will be waiting...

I think Hairy has excellent taste in summer clothing.

Okay, I LOVE this title... hee hee. Totally brings new meaning to "drag." Was the dress totally trashed?

I'm afraid the hair of my husband would kill the Roomba within minutes. It's long and is responsible for the untimely deaths of several vacuum cleaners.

Maybe Hairy is really a Haityette

I love this post. The name you've given your vacuum, the picture of it taking off with your sundress - I'm cracking up over here.

I've been thinking of getting one of those things - nice to hear it's recommended.

That is hilarious! I would love one of those Roombas, but I think it would scare the crap out of my dog.

Luck o' the Irish: Me too!

the waghorns: I'm sure some inter-species dating is holly appropriate. They're totally bethrothed so long as Precious can look past Hairy's need to wear dresses.

teena: I love ours, it gets up tons of pet hair but has to be emptied pretty often.

nancy: I think with small appliances threesomes are totally acceptable. I hear Precious is a dirty birdie anyway. :)

kittenpie: The dress was totally fine - it's just spaghetti straps that got caught in the bristles.

wordgirl: I think our household with the dogs shedding long hairs all the time would be the ultimate test of a roomba - and hairy does quite well.

anonymous: could be!

sweatpantsmom: It vacuums when I do other things (like eat bonbons) What more could a girl ask for?

elizabeth: our dogs mostly just steer clear of it - if it's running in on room they tend to walk away. Same with our scaredy-cats.
