the five things about me meme

Like the new look? I'm still thinking it's a wee bit too girley for me, but when it was finally finished there was NO WAY I was going to start all over again.

I was tagged by the hilarous velocibadgergirl of Pardon the Egg Salad to do the 5 things about me meme.

1. My birthday (September 23) falls between astrological signs - in some books I'm a virgo, and in others I'm a libra. I've always wondered what that was supposed to mean astrology-wise but have never looked into it. When people ask I just tell them I'm a libra.

2. I am completely and utterly terrified of anything paranormal. If you told me there was a ghost living in my house I'd pack up so fast it'd make your head spin. I'm not even really sure I believe in them, but the thought of having one (even the "but it's a friendly ghost" kind) scares me out of my wits. I can't watch creepy shows on TV or movies with ghosts, especially when I'm alone or my imagination will get the better of me and I will freak myself into a frenzy.

When I was 16 I went on an exchange trip to Scotland and my host family took me to Glamis Castle (yes, the Glamis Castle of MacBeth fame). It's said to be one of the most haunted castles in Britain, and when I fell a bit behind in the tour I recall seeing a little boy run by in a sailor's uniform and then quickly catching up with the group. I was embarrassed and don't think anyone else saw what I saw but the guide gleefully announced that she often sees the pageboy run through that room I freaked out internally and did NOT wish to linger in the gift shop.

3. I cannot watch any movie with Nicholas Cage in it. He annoys me to the nth degree. I find him whiney, snively, and just not someone I can tolerate, no matter what character he happens to (or tries to) portray. I find him even more annoying knowing he named his kid Kal-el.

4. I can't stand clutter, and while we've made great strides in the last few weeks to de-clutter our house (donation of several garbage bags and boxes full of stuff to a cerebral palsy charity and a big recycling/garbage pickup a few weeks ago, it still has a long way to go. I partially blame the size of our house - you can't hide clutter in a teeny tiny house - it tends to show up everywhere. We're planning on arranging a special pickup of junk in the near future.

5. I was an ovo lacto vegetarian for two years starting when I was 19 (that means I only ate eggs and dairy), then for another 6 years as an ovo lacto pesce vegetarian (meaning I also ate fish and seafood) until just before our wedding in august, when I gave in to a several year long craving for chicken. right now in our oven is a big turkey breast roasting. I haven't reconciled the "eating an animal" thing yet entirely in my head, I do it anyway. I made delicious roast turkey breast last night for dinner, and made home made turkey soup (since we're both sick) for lunch. That may end up being dinner too.

Who else is tagged? Anyone who hasn't done this one!

I really like the new header! I don't think it's too girly, it's quite the cool design.

Cool 5 things. I didn't know you were a vegetarian -- I've thought about it before, but I am too lazy to try and figure out what I could and couldn't eat.

I've been decluttering all day, but I still have a long way to go. It is nice to make progress, though!

Nicolas Cage kind of bugs me, too...and Kal-el? Puh-leeze. :P

I love your list. So totally random. The new look? VERY GIRLY - but thats okay - say yes to your inner girly girl!

I am not afraid of movies with supernatural elements because I don't believe in that stuff. BUT, any movie with random killing, serial killers etc. I will not go and see. Saw I,II & III? never seen them. Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Although no doubt an ode to my state, I saw the first when I was in college and even though a closed my eyes most of the way through the few scenes I did see? Burned into my brain for life.

I HATE clutter. Give or throw everything away and sometimes regret it.

Oh so cute, with the butterflies and the like. Be careful though, all the pink might give someone the impression that you have a vagina and ovaries.

Lovely header! It kind of reminds me of Anne of Green Gables. Because WHAT DOESN'T?

Ghosts are creepy. I too freak out easily over that kind of thing and whenever scary ghost movie trailers come on the t.v. I have to cover my eyes and sing a happy song.

I love the new header!!!

And I'm LOL about Nicholas Cage. Sometimes I can take him (like, he was awesome in Moonstruck) and then sometimes he just doesn't seem to fit in his role (like Family Man...), you know?

nancy: Being veggie is actually pretty easy. We too have a long way to go in the de-cluttering process.

velocibadgergirl: While my levels go way beyond "bugs me" I can completely go along with the puh-leeze.

debbiedoeslife: I am oddly random and pretty un-girly. I avoid the serial killer movies cause I'm not really a big fan of violence and gore.

the waghorns: Yeah not sure I'm a huge fan of all that pink.

roro: I read all the "anne" books cover to cover (and over again) by the time I was in grade 4. We have TONS Of blankets in our living room for the "cover my eyes" strategy.

mamatulip: Thanks! I don't remember moonstruck that well, and will concede that Vegas movie wasn't awful, but still can't stand him.

I've been trying to become a vegetarian for years. I feel guilty eating meat, yet it tastes so good that I end up doing it anyway. Like you, I would probably go years eating veggies only and then decide all of a sudden to have some prime ribs.

Hmm, interesting all around.
I am not afraid of ghosts, just ghost shows. Jason used to work nights and the only thing on television at a certain hour would be this poorly-made canadian ghost hunting show, the kind where it's all filmed in the dark with their glowing eyes, and they all breathe heavy and pretend to be scared. Creeped me out. Not as much as Nicolas Cage creeps me out though. What is the deal with him?

Your Nicholas Cage is my Kevin Costner.

I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking of you yesterday as I watched the Colbert Report and Stephen Colbert was talking about his minor league hockey bet with the Mayor of your town and how there is going to be a Stephen Colbert day now.

jamila akil: I feel guilty too, but my decision to go back to poultry took me a long time (more than a year) before I decided to try it again. Being veggie really is easy, so long as you make sure you get enough protein and B12.

Jay: Ghost shows (especially the low budget ones) are totally creepy. No idea what the deal is with Cage.

TB: Costner's not one of my favourites either. I was going to write about that (thanks for thinking of me) but kinda figured everyone had heard about it already.

Cute banner, though yes, a bit girly. 'sokay, girly is fun.

And, um, never come to my house, okay? I'm terrible with clutter. Seriously, it's a sty around here. It's a major project of mine for this year to banish a bunch of it, including - gasp - books! Eek! But seriously, it needs to be done. I've avoided it for oh, a decade or so now.

kittenpie: I hate clutter, but it doesn't mean I don't have mountains of it myself. I'm terrible with clutter as well, just trying to get rid of it. Books, though, are on the sacrosanct list. I've been avoiding it way too long.

I love eggs and dairy. I also love meat. I'd have a tough time giving it up.
