Cardboard Heaven

In order to organize the basement we bought a couple of assemble-it yourself basic pine shelves. They aren't fancy, and, assembling them made the air pretty blue in our experience. What should be four posts for height are actually eight, which are held together by tiny little dowels which aren't worth a hill of beans. Not only are they not long enough to really secure the top to the bottom of the shelf, the screw holes don't remotely match up. It was, to say the least, a frustrating experience. At least I now have a place to store my law school books other than the trunk of my car.

The shelves came in big cardboard boxes, and anyone who has had cats knows that these are code for cat heaven - they're almost as good as big paper bags.

It's only every other week that we have recycling pick up in the 'shwa, so getting all the recycling together every 2nd week is necessary, cause anything we miss will have to wait another 2 weeks hanging around the house. That being said, seeing how much the cats enjoyed the boxes and this being recycling week, they're still here. They just loved having them to sleep in too much. This is Scarlett modeling the new digs.

Even once assembled, they were a great hangout for the cats to sit and slap at each other.

Hmmm... I should get one of these cardboard box things for Boo Boo. Then, once he's in it I could just seal it up and...what's your address?

Holymama: Our guys just lounge in it, they preferred shredding the frankencouch (our old couch).

Sunshine: A good time was had by all, but I'm glad to be rid of the boxes.

elaine: I think once we get the basement stuff cleared away I'll open yard waste bag to see how things go.

Marla: I think our zoo is full, but Boo Boo is super cute. He'd miss the fancy oilcloth mats you made for him at our house.

When I was a kid, i loved boxes. We had a collection of large ones in the basement (from fridges, washers, dryers). My mother wallpapered them, cut out doors and windows and we literally had a village of cardboard houses down there. We never had cats - but maybe we had some catty tendencies.

Our cat Petey has his own box that we keep for him because he loves it so much. He will get inside it and lay down and purr for hours.

They look like they are having fun :o)

I'm presently trying to convince Noel that langley needs a $40 cat bed ... your pictures are proof positive that all she really needs is the $0.05 cardboard box the bed comes in.

wordgirl: agreed!

Miss Jay: Sounds like a sweet setup! I too played in cardboard when I was a kid - I still remember our fridge box fondly.

TB: Petey's a lucky boy.

Leslie Waghorn: I've been thinking it'd be nice to get the cats some cute baskets (with a cushion inside, of course) to cuddle up in but haven't found the right one yet.

When we have a big box hanging around, it's not unusual to see my daughter AND the cat hanging out in it together..lol

Really cute pictures :)

Aww, look at that sweetie!!!

My cats will FIGHT over a good cardboard box if they're in the mood to. I bought them a heated pad a few months back which they totally ignored. That is, until I stuffed it into a plastic bag and threw it into an old cardboard box. Now they can't get enough of it.

My girls used to love playing inside those big ol' boxes, until one day when they crawled into one and saw a huge spider...

That's funny. They are just like kids.

I love that last picture -- it cracks me up when my cats spar with one another (unless it's in the middle of the night on the end of my bed, which is what happened last night!) :-)

Izzy: that sounds like it'd make for some great pictures.

nicole: Ours will too, which is likely what started the brawl in the last picture. i bought them one of those stupid cat spa thingies, they couldn't be bothered with it (but of course curled up in the box it came in).

sweatpantsmom: I think I'm one of the few kids who has never been afraid of spiders. Even the GIANT dock spiders.

DebbieDoesLife: They're definitely spoiled, that's for sure

Nancy: we have regular brawls here, which usually start out as innocent affectionate licking and end in all out brawls.
