Wildlife Voyeur

Doug Carrick, a lucky dude living on Hornby Island in BC, is right now sharing with the world one of the coolest uses of technology.

He has a nesting pair of bald eagles in his back yard (and I thought I was cool that we have robins nesting around here), and has been broadcasting the images of the pair sitting on their eggs (I think there were two there this morning). The birds of course are wholly unaware that they're being broadcast live to the world, and it's a completely fascinating look at their behaviour. I saw the female in the nest this morning preening, cleaning up the nest and checking on the eggs, then screech and fly off for the male to arrive and take his turn on the nest.

On Friday they had thought the eggs had started to hatch, but that was evidently a false alarm. They're due to hatch anytime now.

If you're one of the few people who haven't been to the web site (they estimate about 100 million people have) you should definitely check it out.

That is super cool. Thanks for the link! I had no idea this was out there.... it's gotten so busy over there that the site is overloaded so I keep checking back.

Everyone: Sorry to link to a site that's so hard to open... but if you do manage to get it working I promise it's pretty cool!
